- Abstract
- In the fall of 2015 a huge amount of refugees has come from the Middle East to Europe. Sweden is one of the countries that embraced a lot of these refugees. This study is inspired by the volunteers in a small community in the region of Dalsland were a new refugee housing (asylboende) was established the year before. The main question has been how this change has influenced the community in terms of social values in the society. Under four days of fieldwork in the village of Dals Rostock, the candidate student of ethnology Karsten Andersen gathered his empiric material for this paper through interviews with volunteers at the local refugee centre.

The main results are that an emotional narrative focusing on fellowship, closeness and familiarity and empathy gives the inhabitants the tools to focus on the similarities between the old inhabitants and the new.
This paper has five chapters: in the first you find method and theory. Chapter two and three contains the main part of the analysis, with a broadening of the perspective in chapter four: The Hope for Happiness. Finally, in chapter five you find the author’s own conclusions. (Less)
