Han lever! - En systematiskteologisk analys av segertematiken i Harry Potter sammankopplat med Jesus uppståndelse.

Abstract (Swedish)

Syftet med denna kandidatuppsats är att söka teologisk potential i Harry Potter. Det är en systematiskteologisk analys av segertematiken i Harry Potter i jämförelse med Jesus uppståndelse. I den teologiska bakgrunden använder jag den systematisering av uppståndelseteologier Magnus Abrahamson presenterar i sin avhandling, Jesu uppståndelse som historiskt problem (2001). Det styr urvalet av betydande teologer och strukturerar den historiska bakgrunden, vilken fokuserar på 1900-talet. Litteraturanalysen av Harry Potter, främst Harry Potter och Dödsrelikerna, inkluderar sammanfattningar av berättelsen, viktiga karaktärer och stora teman exempelvis kärleksbegreppet och liv efter döden.
Diskussionen delas upp i två spår, först en jämförelse av Harry som en utvald Messias i enlighet med Jesus. Därefter förflyttas perspektivet till att behandla Harry som en vanlig kristen i ljuset av Jesus uppståndelse. Likheterna mellan de två hjältarna är återvändandet till livet efter en avrättning, anledningen till offret nämligen självuppoffrande kärlek till förmån för andra, segern över döden och bekräftelsen av att vara den utvalde. Den teologiska potentialen är mångfaldig och struktureras i fyra teman: kärlek, död, efterföljd samt bekräftelse av utvaldhet.
Beroende på teologisk utgångspunkt finns det potential för samtliga teologier och teologer som presenteras i uppsatsen. Det är dock de traditionella uppståndelseteologierna som finner störst potential på grund av den litterära traditionen som influerats av traditionell kristendom. Det är också en av anledningarna till att huvudtemat i Harry Potter är kärleken som övervinner döden.

Abstract

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to search for theological potential in Harry Potter. It is a systematic theological analysis of the victory theme in Harry Potter in comparison with the resurrection of Jesus. In the theological background, I use the systematization of resurrection theologies in the dissertation of Magnus Abrahamson, Jesu uppståndelse som historiskt problem (2001). It determines the selection of influential theologians and structures the historical background focused on the 20:th century. The literary analysis of Harry Potter, mainly Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, includes summaries of the narrative, important characters and main themes for example the concept of love and life after death.
The discussion is divided into two tracks, first a comparison of Harry as a chosen Messiah in accordance to Jesus. Secondly the perspective is transferred to concern Harry as a Christian everyman in the light of Jesus’ resurrection. The similarities between the two heroes are the returning to the living after an execution, the reason for the sacrifice namely self-sacrificing love in favor of others, the victory over death and confirmation of being the chosen one. The theological potential is diverse and for structural reasons summed up in four themes: love, death, imitation and confirmation of being chosen.
Depending on the theological starting point, there is potential for all theologies and theologians presented in the thesis. Although the traditional resurrection interpretation is mostly successful because of the literary tradition influenced by traditional Christianity. This is also one of the reasons why the main theme in Harry Potter is love conquering death.
