Abstract
This bachelor thesis endeavors to promote a sustainable development and sustainable construction in Sweden. The purpose is to investigate the possibilities for a supplement to the environmentally certificate of a building, as a concept focused on environmentally conscious choices of building products and materials, based on a strategy named BATNEEC. This is analyzed by responding to six questions which include the demand, the complex of problems regarding choices and also the usage and advertising of environmentally-friendly building products and materials. The expectation is that the result will be used by all of the participants in the building trade, who strive to construct an environmentally-friendly building,

The expectation is that the result will be used by all of the participants in the building trade, who strive to construct an environmentally-friendly building,
not entailing excessive costs. This work consists of a literary- and a case study, to analyze the possibilities for a supplement of an environmentally certified building. The case study is based on analysis of four material suppliers’ selections of environmentally-friendly building products and materials and resulted in diagrams for six product categories. They present the proportion between approved and not approved building products and materials, and also the environmentally-friendly alternatives in proportion to how they are being advertised. The result of a concept with environmentally-friendly building products and materials as a supplement to environmentally certified buildings, based on BATNEEC, shows that a conclusion with consideration for the costs, has not been possible to produce. That depends on the fact that the costs first must be comparable in a functional aspect, and that is not included in this bachelor thesis. To make the concept possible, a pilot projects is necessary. The building trade needs to improve the focus of managing and implementing a common system for naming building products and materials. The global trade item number GTIN, as a required field in the new electronic product declaration eBVD2015, should simplify the process for environmentally conscious options which eventually would lead to increased usage. The work has also resulted in diagrams, which clearly prove that the material suppliers receive more environmentally-friendly options, compared to what they advertise. Consequently, the usage of these options is expected to increase, if the management and advertisement of them is developed. (Less)
