- Abstract
- This study aimed to examine the relatives' crisis associated with war-related experiences and the effect of the disappearance of family members during the Kosovo War. Based on the purpose of the study questions were formulated to find out the impact of the war’s events, the support relatives received to handle their everyday life, and the opportunity to process their crisis response. The crisis conditions of the affected were explained by Cullberg’s Crisis Theory. According to Cullberg, a crisis can be triggered by internal and external strains. When someone finds himself in a difficult situation where previous experiences, knowledge, and learned behavior aren’t enough to master the state of mind, this can lead to a mental state of crisis.... The crisis conditions of the affected were explained by Cullberg’s Crisis Theory. According to Cullberg, a crisis can be triggered by internal and external strains. When someone finds himself in a difficult situation where previous experiences, knowledge, and learned behavior aren’t enough to master the state of mind, this can lead to a mental state of crisis. Cullberg divides the course of the crisis into four phases: shock phase, reaction phase, processing phase, and reorientation phase. In this study, Crisis Theory was used as a helping model to orient and understand what the relatives had gone through. The study's methodology was a qualitative interview study in which six women were interviewed. The results showed that the relatives were strongly affected by war-related experiences and the disappearance of their loved ones complicated even more processing of the events and the retrieval process.
