- Abstract
- The main assignment for the Swedish Police, given from the government, is to
1) reduce crime and
2) increase safety so that people can feel safe where they live.
A previous research resulted in the recommendation that the Swedish Police should work separately against the two goals. The motivation for the recommendation was that working separately against the goals would be the most efficient way of achieving both goals. By adhering to this recommendation, the Police would work evidence based and subsequently reduce the risk of making incorrect decisions.

The motivation for the recommendation was that working separately against the goals would be the most efficient way of achieving both goals. By adhering to this recommendation, the Police would work evidence based and subsequently reduce the risk of making incorrect decisions.
In this study a database analysis has been made in order to investigate the possibility of targeting geographical areas where it would be the most efficient to work against only the crime prevention goal, while achieving both reduced crimes and increased safety. By combining data from two different databases the Police could identify areas where crime-reducing actions would simultaneously increase the safety. The method, if used, could help allocating police resources in a more efficient way. (Less)
