Abstract
The paper is about how society effects art when society goes through different social processes. The study is limited to the period referred to as the Vasa era and to paintings. The research is conducted using Jan-Gunnar Sjölin's image recognition model because of its concepts, content and expressions. They enable partly for the contextualisation around the art object. It is the context that reveals the hidden content. In this case the hidden content is the social centralization, as the content is always ideologically charged. The social centralization is concrete but it is a chain of thoughts that are bound to the concrete. This shows art's connection to society. Yet, the hidden content does not just contain ideological connotations as it is possible to identify obelisks in the paper’s empirical material. (Less)
