Systemutveckling med modulmässig designapproach

- Abstract
- The aim of the thesis project was partially to map the process of procurement (and associated
processes) within the Scalae department of Altran. Scalae works with ”Innovative (or New)
Product Development” (IPD/NPD) in outsourced projects which are completely driven by
the department following an agreed-upon framework. Purchases made in a project are made
by Scalae and eventually forwarded to the customer.
A proposed system was to be designed and implemented with the purpose of easing the
work routines within the selected processes.

A proposed system was to be designed and implemented with the purpose of easing the
work routines within the selected processes.
The project rests on a theoretical framework consisting of four corner stones. These are:
∙ procurement in projects - here we look at the characteristics of procurement within
companies in the IPD business
∙ ”Project Management and control” connected to procurement - here we look closer at
how project procurement is connected to project management
∙ system demands - here we look at different types of requirements and demands on
systems and how to satisfy them
∙ modular system design - here we look at the chosen system design of the project and
how this system design should be implemented.
Two main processes where mapped in detail: The process of procurement and the process of
nonconformity management. In the part of the thesis where system demands are analyzed,
in the discussion part and in the proposed solution - a development plan for the system was
made in such a way that it would fit with Altran’s operative activities.
System development was based on the solution proposition and was the last stage of the
thesis project’s practical stage. A reoccurring difficulty was the tendency of discovering new
demands during the development phase - in spite of the large amount of preparation.
The thesis project eventually led to a working system with the possibility of further
development. In retrospect, the project should be considered as far too comprehensive to
fit within the frame of a degree project. Because of this, the system was not altogether
fully developed - but fully working - and therefore it is currently not used in Altran’s daily
operations. It has however great potential for being completed in due time and thereby reach
it’s early set goal.
