This is important because the financial assistance is handled at the social service office, an organization that has great normative attributes. The material that this paper is based on was collected from qualitative interviews, with a vignette part, with social workers on a social service office on a medium-sized city in the county of Skåne, Sweden. The study shows that social workers make differences, although small and subtle, in the way they talk about the clients and what characteristics they presume they have based on gender. The result of this study has shown tendencies that social workers do play a role in the making of gender, though they do not always want to recognize that. (Less)
