Abstract (Swedish)
I interventionen fick deltagarna i experimentgruppen hitta och utveckla sina fem mest framträdande karaktärsstyrkor enligt mätinstrumentet Values in Action Inventory of Strengths. (More)

I interventionen fick deltagarna i experimentgruppen hitta och utveckla sina fem mest framträdande karaktärsstyrkor enligt mätinstrumentet Values in Action Inventory of Strengths. (Less)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to create and test a simple tool to use within organizations to increase employee well-being and improve the experience of psychological, social and organizational working conditions. With help of theory from positive psychology, a three week workplace intervention was created. The 32 participants were administrative employees of a political organization, divided into one experimental and one control group with pre- and post-measurements. In the intervention, participants from the experimental group discovered and developed their five most prominent character strengths according to the measuring instrument Values in Action Inventory of Strengths. Well-being and working conditions were measured by a combination of the instruments Ryff's psychological well-being scales and QPSNordic. The research question was: Is it possible to increase well-being and improve working conditions by understanding and developing character strengths?. The results did not support the first hypothesis: well-being increases and the experience of working conditions are improved when the individual focus on their top five strengths. The results did not support the second hypothesis: there is a positive correlation between higher levels of engagement and commitment to work with their top strengths as well as a higher level of well-being and a more positive experience of working conditions. The results however highlighted the difficulty of creating engagement and commitment from participants to get them to work with their top strengths. (Less)
