- Abstract
- What is the relationship between structures of power and the spaces we inhabit?
I will propose a description of how the relationship between work and housing has changed since the 19th century, and what relationships of power between worker and employer have been created as a result.
I will use four case studies to highlight the changing city through the development of traditional capitalism into a neoliberal project.
The mid-19th century utopian-socialist project Familistère de Guise.
The development of suburban environments and urban sprawl.
The situation in London related to the Right to Buy scheme.
The subsidized housing projects in New York City.
