- Abstract
- The aim of this qualitative study was to investigate and shed light on how care workers perceive their care work and the dilemmas they encounter in the work of adults diagnosed with severe intellectual disabilities. The findings of the study showed that care workers describe care as love, consideration and a constant adequate treatment. Where the key is to create days as meaningful as possible for the care users. Another finding show that care users inability to speak and communicate by words complicates the care users ability to express themselves. This means that there is a constant interpretation of the care users will by the care workers. The lack of communications from persons with disabilities and difficulties expressing their needs and desires often lead to misunderstanding between the care users and care workers. This misunderstanding leads to aggressive and actingout behavior from the care users. In situations of aggressive behavior, the study shows that the care workers must putt the other care users in security rather than responding to the aggressive persons needs.
