Abstract
This report will describe the development of a board rack which is designed for bicycles created for Thule Ab. The market needs environment friendly ways of transporting your gear to your destination with ease of use without compromising the esthetical point of view or safety of the user. There are competing products on the market which are bulky and esthetically unappealing, the aim with the development of this board rack is to create a product that not only competes with the current market but shows the versatility of transporting gear on bicycles without compromising the bike´s original design.

The method used was the Ulrich & Eppingers product development process [2] where the various phases of a product development is thoroughly described.

By analyzing the market needs and conducting interviews, data was gathered which later was interpreted into technical specifications for the product. These technical specifications laid the foundation for the concept generation where several concepts were roughly 3d modelled and screened. Functions from some of the generated concepts were combined and revised for the final concept which is a bike rear carrier that can switch to being a board rack, compatible with Thule´s Pack´n Pedal Tour Rack.

The concept was taken into prototyping stages where the first 3D printed model was used for usability testing. The prototype showed room for improvement where the changes involved creating a smaller version and some modifications design-wise to implement Thule´s design language more. A new model was created and is to be printed & tested for further development. (Less)
