Abstract
In this article we have analysed Prime minister Stefan Löfvens speech at the memorial ceremony, which took place on the 10th of April 2017, three days after the attack on Drottninggatan in Stockholm. Our purpose was to answer the question of how the nation, as a concept, gets portrayed in a time of crisis. We have analysed specific wording and concepts used in Löfvens speech and how they depoliticize the situation, create a national concept of ”we” and define the nation as something solid and great for the people to stand behind in a time of crisis.

From this analysis we draw the conclusion that the nation is inactive but becomes active and rises when a crisis occurs. The nation is used as a depoliticisor in a sensitive and politically... (More)
In this article we have analysed Prime minister Stefan Löfvens speech at the memorial ceremony, which took place on the 10th of April 2017, three days after the attack on Drottninggatan in Stockholm.

The nation is used as a depoliticisor in a sensitive and politically charged situation. A consequence of this is that certain political decisions, that never would have been made outside of a crisis, can be made whilst being presented to the public as non- political, unavoidable and even natural.
