Abstract (Swedish)
The aim of this qualitative study has been to analyze how young adults with Yugoslavian background form and sustain relations across national borders. The study covers second-generation migrants (hereby titled as young adults with Yugoslavian background) who are born in Sweden, with Yugoslavian born parents that came to Sweden as refugees between the years of 1990-1998. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with young adults settled in the southern, middle and northern part of Sweden. We used a convenience, -snowball sampling method and founded our study on the theory of transnational migration and relations. A deductive reasoning strategy has therefore been applied.

The presented results in our study have, as mentioned, been... (More)

The presented results in our study have, as mentioned, been analyzed through a transnational perspective on migration. Contemporary researches with reference to transnational migration often tend to illustrate different experiences, relations and standpoints of first generation migrants. The extent of which the second and third generation participates in various transnational activities and relationships are however highly disputed amongst scholars. We have therefore attempted to elucidate how their children, young adults, reflect upon their own transnational relations from their perspective. Our analysis and final results attested that transnational relations are of great importance for young adults with Yugoslavian background and that communication tools and travels have facilitated their sustention of relations across borders.
