- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
- Abstract
- The aim of the study was to map the motivational factors for blue collar and white collar workers at a construction company working on foundations and ground preparation. The question area sought to find differences in motivation depending on the type of work they do, which region they work in and their age group (generation). A questionnaire was sent to 128 employees at the company and 57 responded corresponding to a 45% response rate of which was 22 blue collar workers and 35 white collar workers. The result of the independent sample t-test showed a statistically significant difference between the blue collar workers and the white collar workers in seven out of nine motivational dimensions (self-actualisation, the meaning of the work... The result of the independent sample t-test showed a statistically significant difference between the blue collar workers and the white collar workers in seven out of nine motivational dimensions (self-actualisation, the meaning of the work task, involvement in the workplace, internal motivation, external motivation, commitment in the workplace and feedback). Additionally, the result of the one- way analysis of variance showed a statistically significant difference between the younger group aged 18-36 (Millennials) and the older group aged 53-71 (Baby Boomers) according to the dimension measuring external motivation. The conclusion is that there is a difference in motivation based on which occupational group the employee belongs to. (Less)
