- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- This study aims to examine how the politically correct speech can promote self-censorship and how it affects society and individuals, based on examples from North American universities. The empirical data consists of medial events that highlight sanctions in case of failure to remain politically correct. To achieve the aim of the study, a critical-theoretical discourse analysis has been done based on the empirical context, with the application of sociological theories. The study shows, among other things, how the discourse of political correctness can legitimize a form of oppression, through abusive social sanctions, against individuals who are not staying within the discourse. Furthermore, the possible counter productivity of the... (More)

Furthermore, the possible counter productivity of the discourse is discussed in the sense that ideas and intellectual diversity within the North American academy may decline.
