Abstract
The main purpose of this report is to evaluate whether the person safety is adequate in case of a fire at Stockholmsmässan. Stockholmsmässan is an exhibition hall in Älvsjö that covers 220 000 m2. It has a lot of different arrangements such as exhibitions, recordings for TV-shows and conferences. By showing that it is possible to evacuate everyone in the building without a risk of serious injuries in case of a fire the personal safety is adequate.
After finding some of the more realistic fire scenarios the four worst credible scenarios were selected through a risk evaluation. The four chosen scenarios were picked out for further analysis. It has a lot of different arrangements such as exhibitions, recordings for TV-shows and conferences. By showing that it is possible to evacuate everyone in the building without a risk of serious injuries in case of a fire the personal safety is adequate.
After finding some of the more realistic fire scenarios the four worst credible scenarios were selected through a risk evaluation. The four chosen scenarios were picked out for further analysis. By finding and setting up untenable conditions and compare these to the fire simulations in FDS the time to critical conditions were determined. This time was later compared to the evacuation simulation in Pathfinder to determine how many persons that were in the building when critical conditions were reached.
The results show that in all but one case the evacuation could be finished before critical conditions occurs. Although in some cases the evacuation time is very long and to provide a shorter evacuation time some measures are suggested.
Following measures needs to be done:
• Lower the impact of radiation when a fire occurs on a stage
This is a measure that needs to be done to be able to provide a secure evacuation for all visitors. The following measures are suggested and should be considered:
• Reformulation of the emergency alarm
• Delayed alarm transmission
• Automatic opening of gates
• Sprinklers with lower RTI-values
These are measures that are suggested to be done and will provide Stockholmsmässan with an improved fire safety. The fire safety is adequate without these measures as well. (Less)
