The discussion is based on two questions: Which strategies and objectives do fashion companies and public authorities use for ecological sustainable fashion? Are there any divergence between fashion companies and public authority’s strategies and objectives for ecological sustainable fashion? The thesis is based on empirical material from H&M, Nudie and Filippa K sustainability reports and websites and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Swedish Chemicals Agency and the Swedish Consumer Agency reports and websites.
The outcome of this study shows though fashion companies and public authorities have a different premise, they have common ground in many areas in their aim to make fashion ecological sustainable. They recommend waste management strategy to reduce the negative effects fashion industry have on the environment. They recommend and use the strategy; reuse, repair and recycle. They also aim to reduce chemicals in textiles. Common strategies and objectives increases the possibility to make fashion ecologically sustainable. However, when two authorities, fashion companies and public authorities, have reached a what seems to be a consensus and a strategy to achieve it, it might obstruct different viewpoints on ecological fashion and strategies. Consumption and the negative effects global sourcing have on the environment are two areas which are not discussed and questioned. However, the strategies and objectives try to reduce their effect on the environment. (Less)
