Abstract
This study investigate the pollution levels (heavy metals) in Skurups city’s storm watersystem. Rain and runoff water (storm water) can be polluted and pose an environmental problem because it rarely gets purified on the way to our waterways. To find the various outlets where storm water reaches waterways, Skurups urban storm water systems were mapped. The city’s different businesses inside industrial areas were also mapped to see if pollution level could be correlated to industrial density. Six test locations were found throughout the city and two tests were taken on each site. Most of the outfalls exists on the city’s east side (4 outfalls on the east side and 1 outfall and 1 dam on the west side).

Metal pollution were found in each site in large variance to each other. Highest total metals in the storm water were found on the city’s east side although most businesses inside industrial zones were found on the west side. When the amount of metal pollution were compared to the health limits which different municipalities and organizations have set, the levels were not as high to cause any threat to health or the environment. However, the test were only taken during one day and just gives a small sample size of the situation. Data for rainfall amounts were also collected for the test day and a period past and showed that the only day with rain was the day before test day with 3.5 mm. This means that the metal level in Skurup storm water can be higher during a rain period. In summary, this study of metal concentrations in Skurup storm water is existing but relatively low and cannot be traced to any business. (Less)

Föroreningssituationen i Skurups dagvattensystem

(More)
