Industrial Design
Abstract
About the people is a project that comprises the subjects of immigration and integration and how these topics could be explored and managed through design. Every year tens of thousands of people come to Sweden with the intention and dreams of starting a new life. Most of these people come from countries of war and conflict. Immigration is a hot topic in Sweden and all over the world. There are lots of different opinions regarding this subject both strong voices for and against it.

From what I understand resistance and hate often comes from ignorance and fear of what we do not know. My bachelor project is about getting to know the people behind the word “immigrant” through design.

I view the profession of industrial design to be versatile and multidisciplinary. We get to know and understand many subjects within various fields. It is in my belief that as an industrial designer we have the possibility to influence and change things, habits, systems, behaviours and injustice. Design thinking can be applied to address social and environmental issues in the society.

It has been my vision with this project that through design, give an insight to what it is like to be an immigrant in Sweden. I believe that the most important thing for integration is getting to know the people that are coming here. Because if we get to know them there will be less preconceptions and generalisations and more sympathy and understanding which would contribute to a improved social climate. (Less)
