The social worker’s experiences with giving care-support were analyzed through queer theory. Several themes became visible and could be concluded in the results. The results show that the social workers describe the care-support within the non-profit organizations as different from the care-support within the public sector. The non-profit organizations were described as having a flexible and spontaneous time-schedule for the care-support where the care-support not necessarily happened at the organization’s premises. When and where the care-support takes place can be up to the receiver and the social worker then adjusts to the situation. The study also shows that the social workers construct sexual identity within their care-support verbally as well as by non-verbal communication. Some of the social workers expressed how their own sexual identity wasn’t relevant for the care-support while others constructed their sexual identity as a central part of the engagement in the non-profit organization. Because norms are inconstant, that will result in a care-support that could express a heteronormativity depending on the situation and the social workers construction of norms. (Less)
