- Abstract
- The aim of this bachelor thesis is to look into stories and expectations that appear and influence young heterosexuals in their negotiations of contraceptive use and responsibility. Using qualitative method the study is based on a focus group interview with women and men. The focus group interview is complimented by individual interviews with respectively men and women. Furthermore it looks into the ideas and expectations that apply to the meeting of a sexual partner and to the act of the sexual intercourse.... (More)

Furthermore it looks into the ideas and expectations that apply to the meeting of a sexual partner and to the act of the sexual intercourse. The thesis has its theoretical basis within the social constructivist paradigm. In order to unfold and interpret the stories and expectations that emerge in the empirical data, I use theoretical contributions from Jeffery C. Alexander, Erving Goffman, Scott & Lyman’s terminology about accounts and Foucault’s sexuality concept by Henning Bech. Through my analysis I point out nine stories, that appear and influence young heterosexuals in their negotiation of contraceptives and responsibility. Based on these stories I finally claim that young men and women share responsibility for contraception quite unequally, and that rather traditional ideas of gender and sexuality influence the perceptions and stories that apply to the negotiation of contraceptive use and responsibility.
