In recent years there has been an increase in the number of articles written about honour-related violence in Swedish newspapers. The aim of this essay is to analyze and highlight how two major Swedish newspapers describe the subject of honour-related violence. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of articles written about honour-related violence in Swedish newspapers. The aim of this essay is to analyze and highlight how two major Swedish newspapers describe the subject of honour-related violence. More specifically the purpose is to investigate how the origin of honour-related violence and the question of responsibility in relation to honour-related violence is described by the authors. In our essay we have noted three discourses that are central to how honour-related violence is discussed. Conclusions from this study include that an often-negative image of immigrants in connection to honour-related violence appears in the text and immigrants are often treated as a homogenous group in discussions about honour-related violence. In addition, the subject is often politicized within the discourses and used in promoting political parties and its respective philosophies, as well as presenting their solutions. (Less)
