Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Baddeleyit is a zirconium oxide that normally is not found in silica rich environments, because it’s not stabile. It will rather react and form zircon. My paper will deal with an extreme case where the baddeleyit was found in a quartzite I the southernmost part of Ghana. Zircons with baddeleyit inclusions were found right above a contact with a deformed granite. After some studies on the rock and the zircon grains in a microscope and a scanning electron microscope, and some chemical analysis I could draw the conclusion that baddeleyit is only found in the quartzite just above the granitecontact, and not in any of the other samples. Observations like inclusions, bubbles and areas that are leached in specific elements, suggests that both the... (More)

Observations like inclusions, bubbles and areas that are leached in specific elements, suggests that both the granite and the quartzite just above the contact have been affected by fluids. There are several models that suggest that baddeleyit can form during both primary and secondary processes in zircon, depending on the baddeleyit distribution patterns in the grain. If it’s about secondary processes one of the explanatory models is that fluids have affeceted the rock. The results from my work indicates that that baddeleyit have formed during secondary processes, fluids going through the rock. (Less)
