Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine students experiences and participation in Lund university
studentunions. The methodological approach in doing this has been by four interviews with förmän
at student unions that goes under the name nation. By using Bourdieus theories about class, habitus
and culture, analysis of how the students different backgrounds has shaped their carriers at nations
has been made. The participants of the study have been categorized into two concepts: classtravelers
and inheritors. Growing up in a environment where higher education was not a given life
choice made the class-traveler of the study to use the nation as a substitute for low cultural capital.
