- Abstract
- This is a study of the Swedish Defence Force and its problems with sexual harassments, sexual assaults and sexual violations. In 2017, the hashtag #givaktochbitihop was created as a part of the #metoo-movement and was especially designed for women in the armed forces. Under this hashtag, 1768 women testified of abuse within the organisation. This study aims to find the source to the problem presented under said hashtag and examines which role male homosociality plays in this. The study is based in a text by Michael Flood (2008) and his four ways in which homosociality presents itself within male-male relations, and how it affects men’s sexual relations with women. The result of the analysis shows that homosociality indeed is a constant... (More)

The study is based in a text by Michael Flood (2008) and his four ways in which homosociality presents itself within male-male relations, and how it affects men’s sexual relations with women. The result of the analysis shows that homosociality indeed is a constant presence among the soldiers and sailors that were interviewed or part of an ethnographic study, and that all four of Flood’s ways of expressing homosociality can be found within these groups. While homosociality can be described as a positive kind of brotherhood, this study shows how it creates obstacles for women in the workplace. (Less)
