- The meaning of security has transformed due to the emergence of alternative
security perspectives after the cold war, promoting the need for a security agenda centred around the individual. Since its popularization in the 1990s, the concept of human security has been characterized by debates regarding its relevance and what it should entail. As an important actor in maintaining peace and security, the UN has strongly promoted a comprehensive human security approach during the last decades. need to address both development and security issues, the analysis is based on five essential dimensions of human security, namely economic, health, environmental personal and political security. While efforts have been made to ensure human security within all dimension, this thesis concludes that the UN peacekeeping operation prioritizes personal and political security in the Central African Republic.
