Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of imagery rescripting and in vivo exposure in clients with social anxiety. The study wanted to examine effects on anxiety, avoidance and negative beliefs, and whether one session was sufficient to create change. The study also aimed to compare the two methods to see if one was superior compared to the other. In the present study 23 students with anxiety levels over 30 at LSAS-SR were randomly assigned to a single-session intervention of either method. The participants were assessed on outcome on pre-treatment, post-treatment and follow-up at two and four weeks. Results showed that both interventions were effective and equally so. The clinical implications of these findings are discussed.
