Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This study sought to examine the relationship between team personality and the success of new companies during their startup phases. Personality data was gathered along with data on what startup milestones the teams had managed to achieve. Thirty-two teams who participated in business development programmes in any of a number of business incubators, all located in Sweden, were included in the study. Team personality was operationalized as the team mean on the personality traits that were assessed in the study. The relationships between team personality and four different outcome measures were assessed. These were: completion of a business plan, the granting of external funding, first sale and general success during the startup phase. To... (More)

The relationships between team personality and four different outcome measures were assessed. These were: completion of a business plan, the granting of external funding, first sale and general success during the startup phase. To answer the research questions three logistic regression analyses and one partial correlation analysis were conducted. The results did not support the relationship between team personality and any of the four outcome variables. The operationalization of team personality and startup success is discussed, as well as to what extent the startup context offers an opportunity for personality differences to be expressed as differences in behaviour, and ultimately as the completion of different activities in the startup process.
