- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- Abstract
- Background: Reumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the most common rheumatic diseases in Sweden and is most frequent among women. Many people with RA get affected by the chronic tiredness fatigue, which lately has been noted as one of the most difficult symptoms along with RA. Since there is a lack of research regarding how RA-related fatigue affects everyday life, the authors consider this as a knowledge gap in occupational therapy. Purpose: To investigate how RA-related fatigue affects everyday life in women of working age. Method: A qualitative study was performed in terms of semistructured interviews with eight women diagnosed with RA, who had experienced fatigue. A manifest content analysis based on the concepts of the occupational... (More)

Method: A qualitative study was performed in terms of semistructured interviews with eight women diagnosed with RA, who had experienced fatigue. A manifest content analysis based on the concepts of the occupational practice model MOHO was applied to analyze the interviews. Result: The concepts used from MOHO was volition, habituation, performance capacity and environment. The result showed that RA-related fatigue primarily had an impact on the participants' volition and habituation, mostly in terms of motivation and loss of interests and roles. Conclusion: As it emerged that RA-related fatigue affects everyday activities, the authors consider a need for occupational interventions directed towards this focus group to be a relevant research area.
