Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
Abstract
This research is based on two surveys, Study 1 and Study 2. The purpose of Study 1 was to find out how staff within municipal individual and family social service and private care groups valued adjectives in the Family Climate self-rating scale (Familjeklimat) and if they were perceived as positive, neutral or negative. In Study 2, consisting of a clinical and a non-clinical group, it was examined whether there is an association with Family Climate self-rating scale and the adjectives valued at the highest consensus in Study 1.
Data collection was done through questionnaires that were converted to quantifiable data. Relationships between different variables and any connections for further analysis was reviewed.

The result in Study 1 showed that there was a very high consensus among respondents when they assessed adjectives within the categories positive and negative. The category of neutral adjectives was excluded as it did not achieve a sufficiently high consensus. The result in Study 2 showed that the research group as a whole endorsed the positive adjectives to a very large extent and the negative adjectives to a much lesser extent. Regarding differences between the clinical and non-clinical groups, they were mainly reflected in the specific positive words being endorsed, and that the clinical group endorsed negative adjectives to a greater extent. Furthermore, results from the self-assessment form MADRS-S revealed significant differences between the clinical and non-clinical groups in which the clinical group estimated higher pessimism and sleep difficulties compared to the non-clinical group.
The result also showed that there was a correlation between the categories positive and negative adjectives and the different factors in the Family Climate self-rating scale.
This raised the question whether the categories of positive and negative adjectives could complement Family Climate factors. (Less)
