Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)

The interview material was analysed with interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA).
Results: Five main themes were identified: Retirement as a process, Relating to the former work, Finding balance in the retired life, Having resources and Future health and aging. The participants expressed a need and a desire to bring their working life to an end and still maintain relations with former colleagues as well as parts of their working identity. The desired balance was between being active, helping others and still finding time for yourself. Mental driving force and attitude served as important coping resources along with a continuous sense of group belonging. Economic stability was important in the retired life and could be obtained in a number of ways. A worry about future declining health, in particular dementia, coexisted with wishes for the future and acceptance of aging.
Conclusions: The analysis shows that retirement, retiree identity and the retired life in general were experienced as complex and multidimensional phenomena by the participants. (Less)
