Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine what factors ex-offenders consider has facilitate and prevent their turning points for leaving a criminal life. In addition, the purpose was also to investigate how ex-offenders experienced prison as a factor for re-entry in society. From those two perspectives of view we also wanted to ascertain if prison or factors that are non-legal are the most successful for re-entry. By doing a comparison we could find out what ex-offender themselves consider had the most favourable impact on their turning points. The study is based on two group interviews with ex-offenders and it gave us a more complex picture than we known from before when it comes to the obstacles of leaving a criminal lifestyle.

The study is based on two group interviews with ex-offenders and it gave us a more complex picture than we known from before when it comes to the obstacles of leaving a criminal lifestyle.
The conclusion in this investigation showed several of different answers when it comes to which factors are most advantageous or preventive. It was considered as an individual aspect because everyone had their own story. Even though they had experienced different happenings in life they agreed on many points and therefore we could provide with some of the most important factors that they experienced had become a turning point.
The result of the study also illustrated that prison was not a turning point, and in some cases even could make their situation in their criminal carrier even worse. The methods used in prison was not enough for a re-entry process and could not provide with some of the most important factors like social support, work, positive attitude against society and personal motivation.
