Abstract
This article uses a systematic and rigorous empirical study of the effects of the policies of the national high-tech zones using relevant socio-economic data from 266 prefecture-level cities in 30 provinces in China from 2001 to 2016. We use the characteristics of the gradual advancement of the national high-tech zones to adopt the difference-in-difference model model to estimate the policy impact of the establishment of national high-tech zones on regional GDP growth. The study found that the establishment of a national high-tech zone does have a considerable positive impact on regional GDP growth. These basic conclusions can pass a series of robustness tests. This article also discusses some of the factors affecting the effectiveness of... (More)
