Construction Management - En jämförelse mellan teori och i praktiken
(2018)- Abstract
- Build more, build better, and build faster are concepts that more and more people become
aware of. Can Construction Management (CM) achieve the right price and quality in a time
and cost-effective way? Construction Management is a form of a project delivery method that
may occur under different types of construction contracts.
The purpose of this survey is to identify the strengths and weaknesses a CM project can have
and when it may be suitable to use. The study concerns only one perspective from the CM
consultants, which means that it is limited to mention contractors and other subcontractors.

The purpose of this survey is to identify the strengths and weaknesses a CM project can have
and when it may be suitable to use. The study concerns only one perspective from the CM
consultants, which means that it is limited to mention contractors and other subcontractors.
Different ways of investigating this study have been through interviews by phone and
questions have been answered by email. The answers from the participants, who all have long
experience in the construction industry and CM, was analyzed. The result was then put in
categories to look presentable.
The biggest advantage of CM is the flexibility. The developer takes full responsibility for the
project but at the same time has a greater opportunity to be part of the project and influence
the final product. With the CM method, several processes can be worked in parallel and the
project can thus win on time. Procurement with the Public Procurement Act (PPA) increases
competition for contractors and subcontractors and lower the pricing. In addition,
subcontractors and other actors have a greater opportunity to participate.
One conclusion was that CM is only suitable for use and works best in big projects that have
enough savings to cover all costs incurred by multiple procurement of subcontractors.
