Abstract
In this essay I have analysed the documentary film Crimea - The Way Home. The film is produced and distributed by the Russian state-owned media. My aim is to analyse how the film portrays the different actors in the conflict, how the events that transpired are described and which strategies for legitimization are used. I utilised a critical discourse analysis to examine the film and to answer the questions I posed I also presented a theoretical framework that defines propaganda. In my analysis I found that the film was indeed biased and makes frequent use of othering in the depiction of the opposing side of the conflict. I therefore argue that the biased messaging is enough to conclude that the film is to be considered propaganda. (Less)
