Abstract
Cross sector collaborations with multiple stakeholders are on the rise when it comes to dealing with segregation in Swedish suburbs. To achieve long-term systemic change, project-based interventions are slowly giving way to joint initiatives of a more strategic character, which target the situation of the suburbs in all of their complexity. These so-called wicked problems, characterized by problems lacking obvious solutions, attempted to be solved by stakeholders with competing agendas, demand a different approach and a new set of skills. By applying the concept of unlearning to a case study of the collaboration Kraftsamling Herrgården in Malmö, Sweden, this thesis aimed to illustrate the struggle of unlearning behaviors and ways of... These so-called wicked problems, characterized by problems lacking obvious solutions, attempted to be solved by stakeholders with competing agendas, demand a different approach and a new set of skills. By applying the concept of unlearning to a case study of the collaboration Kraftsamling Herrgården in Malmö, Sweden, this thesis aimed to illustrate the struggle of unlearning behaviors and ways of thinking in a collaborative initiative. Stories of unlearning were collected in two workshops and one interview with a total of 17 respondents, who represented 10 various organisations. The material was analysed through Thematic Analysis and resulted in different themes distributed across two types of unlearning: wiping and deep unlearning, as well as three systemic levels: individual, organizational and collaborative levels respectively. A variety of stories concerning how wiping and deep unlearning can be experienced on different levels were identified. Examples emerged of the interaction between different types of unlearning as well as between the varying subsystems. These stories illustrated the complexity of collaborative initiatives in a suburban context and gave rise to questions regarding the role of leadership in enabling unlearning in wicked problems. Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
