Abstract
This essay examines the working-class representation in the Swedish Social Democratic party´s parliament group, during the following parliament periods: 1982-1985, 1994-1998 and 2006-2010. The study is based on the detailed biographical compilations about the members of the parliament, which the Swedish parliament has released since 1982.
The results of my research show that the number of working-class representatives in the Social Democrat’s parliament group, has continuously declined during the periods mentioned. I have found two primary reasons for this. The first reason being – the changes in the relationship between the unions belonging to the Swedish trade union confederation and the Social Democratic Party. These changes occurred... (More)

These changes occurred primarily from the latter years of the 1980s, which resulted in the Swedish trade union confederation loosing much of its influence over the Social Democrat´s nomination process to the Swedish parliament. The second main reason has to do with the gender equality policies which the Social Democrats introduced in the early years of the 1990s. The gender equality policies resulted in male workers, who constituted the majority of the working-class, gained access to fewer seats in parliament. (Less)
