- Abstract
- Previous research of environmental groups and social movements underline the potential of alliances between groups to increase their aggregate impact. Through a case study of a cooperation between the climate action group Code Rood and the environmental interest organization Groninger Bodem Beweging, the thesis examines cooperation between the European movement for climate justice and locally based environmental groups. The aim is to attain a deeper understanding of the gains and restrictions of such cooperation in order to strengthen the groups being studied. The material of six semi-structured interviews with people from both groups is analyzed through resource mobilization theory as well as Gould, Schaniberg and Weiberg’s concept... (More)

The aim is to attain a deeper understanding of the gains and restrictions of such cooperation in order to strengthen the groups being studied. The material of six semi-structured interviews with people from both groups is analyzed through resource mobilization theory as well as Gould, Schaniberg and Weiberg’s concept transnational treadmill of production and Nixon’s notion of slow violence. The results indicate that alliances between the groups can improve the mobilizing structures of local groups and bring appealing framing possibilities for the global climate justice movement. The results on possible negative effects of cooperation are conflicting, implying the need for further research. (Less)
