The primary goal of the study was to obtain a general picture of how the children perceived treatment from authority figures in their daily lives. The study was made in the light of current political events in Europe, where migrant children have been both criminalized and victimized. By interviewing former unaccompanied migrant children, the authors sought to highlight and explain the abilities that migrant children possess; independence, decisiveness and courage. The results of our research showed that our perception of migrant children is exclusively based on stereotypes; little actual research is in fact dedicated to this issue. This encompasses both our perception of their needs and capabilities, as well as the actual legitimacy of their stories. With this study we aimed to inspire others to take interest in the other side of the story. (Less)
