Moreover this study is enriched by my two-week field observations in the region as well as secondary data. In this thesis, the factors which brought Kurdish women to mobilise in the North of Syria are classified in three categories: macro, meso, and micro level factors. In the macro level, I analysed the impact of national oppression against Kurds in Syria, the patriarchy system, and the civil war in Syria. In the meso level, I explore the impact of different organizations (before and after “Rojava revolution”) and family networks. The most important organizations were PKK, PYD, Star congress, and YPJ. In the micro level, I distinguished three collective identities (Kurds, women, comrade) which Kurdish women have identified themselves with and have generate their commitment to their struggle. During my analysis, I conclude that these three categories (macro, meso, and micro) are strongly interconnected and the combination of them has brought about the Kurdish women’s remarkable participation in the military struggle and also in their self-governing system in the North of Syria.
