- Abstract
- The aim of this study is to explore the thoughts of August Quennerstedt, the Swedish zoologist active during the turn of the twentieth century, with regard to his ideas on environmental protection. In doing so, the study seeks to identify and historically explain the main notions behind the arguments for protecting the environment as put forth by Quennerstedt in his written lecture ”Naturen och människan”,(”The nature and man”). The result of the study shows that Quennerstedt's thoughts on the value of environmental protection places him within the historical contexts of his time fostering following convictions: (1) a critique of civilisation, (2) the idea of a strong, organic connection between the people of the nation and it's nature,...
