Abstract
This study uses primary survey data to analyze the impact of international remittances on household expenditure across four different districts in the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. The impact was explored by testing whether the share of different expenditure categories varies across recipient and non-recipient households. OLS methods were used to assess the impact of international remittances on the household budget shares. The findings from this study show that there is no statistically significant difference in the expenditure pattern between remittance-receiving and non-receiving households while controlling for demographic characteristics. The amount of remittances received also appears to have no statistically significant... (More)

The findings from this study show that there is no statistically significant difference in the expenditure pattern between remittance-receiving and non-receiving households while controlling for demographic characteristics. The amount of remittances received also appears to have no statistically significant impact on the expenditure categories. Instead, other variables such as total household income seem to matter more.
