Brandteknisk riskvärdering av Thoraxavdelningen intensivvård
(2019) VBRN70 20191Division of Fire Safety Engineering
- Abstract
- This report reviews the fire safety of the thorax intensive care unit of Skåne University Hospital
in Lund to validate the safety of persons in the ward during fire. By identifying 16 possible fire
scenarios and ranking them by probability and consequence the three most complicated and
probable scenarios were chosen – fire in a recycle bin, storage room, and unoccupied patient
room. Through simulation of selected scenarios, and comparison with critical conditions such as
temperature and visibility, it was deemed that the available safe egress time is enough for safe
evacuation of patients in all three cases. The results of the first two scenarios point towards
evacuation not being needed as evacuation would require moving through... (More) - This report reviews the fire safety of the thorax intensive care unit of Skåne University Hospital

evacuation of patients in all three cases. The results of the first two scenarios point towards
evacuation not being needed as evacuation would require moving through the fire cell the fire is
located in. In the last scenario critical conditions were met, but further analysis showed that
evacuation was still possible. This motivated installation of fire sprinkler in patient rooms
during the next renovation to ensure safe conditions during fire. (Less)
