Abstract
The purpose of this report is to evaluate and assess fire safety at Bombardier Arena, located in Västerås. This report will only focus on personal safety and therefore no consideration has been taken regarding economic or environmental damage.
Bombardier Arena is used during several events, for example, during concerts, car shows, and different sports activities. The maximum number of attendees at a single event is 3000.

The purpose of this report is to evaluate and assess fire safety at Bombardier Arena, located in Västerås. This report will only focus on personal safety and therefore no consideration has been taken regarding economic or environmental damage.
Bombardier Arena is used during several events, for example, during concerts, car shows, and different sports activities. The maximum number of attendees at a single event is 3000.
Several possible fire scenarios were considered, and in the end, three fire scenarios were analysed in detail. The purpose of the analysis was to evaluate if a safe evacuation from the building can be performed before people are exposed to critical conditions. In order to perform the analysis, two computer software programs, FDS which is a fire simulation program and Pathfinder is an evacuation simulation program were used in combination with hand-calculations.
In conclusion, the results show that in two of the fire scenarios, people attending Bombardier Arena will be able to evacuate before critical conditions occur. However, critical conditions will appear before the attendees leave the building in one of the scenarios. In order to estimate a more correct time to critical condition, more nodes are needed in the upper parts of the stand. Several possible actions are presented in order to ensure that a safe evacuation can be performed. The most important are the following:
• Proper training of staff
• Regular maintenance of fire equipment such as fire extinguishers should be performed on a regular basis.
• Emergency exits should always be kept free of obstacles. (Less)
