Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the living situation of undocumented migrants in Skåne, Sweden and what gives them the strength to carry on. The method used for the study was a qualitative approach where we carried out the intake of information via semi-constructed interviews. The interviews were coded with a grounded theory inspired approach which means that the theories used in the analysis were generated during the coding. We interviewed seven informants that had been undocumented migrants in Skåne, Sweden but now has a residence permit in Sweden. The interviews were coded with a grounded theory inspired approach which means that the theories used in the analysis were generated during the coding. We interviewed seven informants that had been undocumented migrants in Skåne, Sweden but now has a residence permit in Sweden. The theoretical framework used to analyze the results of the study were social vulnerability and Antonovsky Sense of Coherence (SOC). Through these two theories, we could look at the results as to how and why the social exclusion affects their standing in society and what components contribute to their understanding of their situation and feeling of inclusion that gives them the strength to carry on. The results generated were that these people lived a tough life due to the face that their social standing is so low and that they have little or no stability in their life which affects their psychological health. We could see that comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness, which are the three pillars in SOC, had an effect on how these people understood their situations and the role these concepts played in them keeping good health.
