- The aim of this paper was to analyze and reflect on how Swedish newspapers report on mental illness amongst adolescents and review what causes of mental illness are presented and what prevention strategies Swedish newspapers reports on. The research questions where: What forms of mental illness are represented in the articles? What causes of mental illness are presented in the articles? What prevention strategies are presented in the articles? - The aim of this paper was to analyze and reflect on how Swedish newspapers report on mental illness amongst adolescents and review what causes of mental illness are presented and what prevention strategies Swedish newspapers reports on. The research questions where: What forms of mental illness are represented in the articles? What causes of mental illness are presented in the articles? What prevention strategies are presented in the articles? In order to answer these research questions seventeen articles where chosen from six newspapers published in Sweden between the years 2018-2019. In order to analyze the articles thirteen analytical questions where formulated. The analytical questions originated from the research questions. The result showed that changes in the Swedish school system where a popular cause reported in several of the newspapers. Other causes reported on was the use of social media and how that interferes with the wellbeing of adolescents. As a result of the school system being a popular cause, many of the prevention strategies presented are meant to happen in school. This might because prevention strategies in schools will target adolescents from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Interesting aspects to do further research on are how politics interfere in the reporting of mental illness in newspapers. (Less)
