- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to investigate and explain how counselors at hospitals describe their experience and coping with emotions at work. The study was based on five qualitative semi-structured interviews with counselors in hospital settings. The main issue in this study was to identify social workers’ strategies for coping with emotions in emotional labour. The primary theoretical framework for the analysis was Richard S. Lazarus and Susan Folkman’s psychological coping theory. The coping theory was combined with sociological role theory, both Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical role theory and Arlie Russell Hochschild’s theory about emotional labour.
