Abstract
Tramadol is a synthetic opioid which for the past 10 years have been on the rise as an abuseable drug in the adolescent and young adult group in Sweden. Further it explores what treatments and methods that are being used to help young Tramadol-users today, and what treatments and methods professionals see a need for in the future to help the group. The results of the study show that a possible answer to understand why Tramadol has become such a popular drug lies in how multifaceted the drug is, and how the adolescents and young adults at be beginning of the addiction are using it for many different occasions. Further, the results are analyzed with a focus on theories about identity development in adolescents and young adults. Regarding treatment and support for the group the study finds that professionals describe a much higher need for medical treatment and in particular medical detoxication for young Tramadol users, in combination with more intense motivational treatment after the detoxication.
