Abstract
The aim of this study is to see how big the estimated number of unrecorded cases in Sweden are when it comes to reporting sexual molestation and to see if the court sees the victim as an ideal victim. If so, it is in our interest to investigate if the ideal victim can be associated with the number of unrecorded cases. Statistics regarding reported sexual crimes and sexual molestation in Malmö and previous research is also a part of the results. Together these three parts creates a case study. The topic is considered highly relevant in today’s society. Sexual crimes have received a lot of attention in media the last few... (More)

Statistics regarding reported sexual crimes and sexual molestation in Malmö and previous research is also a part of the results. Together these three parts creates a case study. The topic is considered highly relevant in today’s society. Sexual crimes have received a lot of attention in media the last few years, but it is mostly about rape and not as much about sexual molestation. The results showed that the court in Malmö depicted the victim as an ideal victim. One thing that show this well is that most of the perpetrators were unknown for the victim. The previous research on the topic is pointing in the direction of a large estimated number of unrecorded cases when it comes to all kinds of sexual crimes. The ideal victim and the estimated number of unrecorded cases are associated with each other because ideal victims are more likely to report a sexual molestation. (Less)
